FAQ's:

Does my trucks or equipment need DEF?

DEF is essential for operating heavy equipment and trucks. Maintaining proper fluid levels is crucial; otherwise, your trucks may cease functioning, and any warranties on your equipment could be voided.

How much DEF do I need?

Generally, for every 50 gallons of diesel fuel, 1 gallon of DEF is needed. One gallon of diesel exhaust fuel will last approximately 300-500 miles, depending on the size and usage of the truck or equipment.

How will a driver know when they are low on Diesel Exhaust Fluid?

There are simple warning indicators on the dashboard for the drivers indicating the fluid level.

Is DEF corrosive?

DEF is corrosive to copper, brass, and other materials. Only approved materials, such as high-density polyethylene (HDPE), will be used in the DEF tank, packaging, and dispensing equipment.

Can diesel fuel be pumped into the DEF tank?

No, the industry standard for onboard DEF dispensing holes is smaller than that of diesel tanks. The nozzles for diesel fuel at fuel islands will not fit the onboard DEF tank.

What is the optimal storage?

23°F to 77°F temperature. Avoid direct exposure to sunlight. ISO 22241 standards require using only stainless steel and/or certain plastics, such as high-density polyethylene (HDPE) or polypropylene, to store DEF to prevent contamination and SCR failure.

What happens if Diesel Exhaust Fluid gets too cold? Or too hot?

DEF begins to freeze at 12ºF. In the case of trucks parked outside, the DEF solution begins to flow when the truck is started, and the tank is heated. Shelf life is reduced when DEF is stored at hot temperatures for long periods of time.

Does DEF expand when frozen?

Yes, DEF expands by approximately 7% when frozen. Using ISO 22241 approved standard storage packaging and tanks will allow for the expansion when frozen.
