Fair Project Friday

Mitchell Weir has been working with beef cattle for his show projects for 6 years now. His Mom’s entire family showed when he was younger, so she signed Mitchell up for Little Squealers to see if he would like it and he really enjoyed it. He started showing beef through his 4-H program in the 7th grade and currently represents the Kewskum FFA organization which he joined his freshman year of high school.

Mitchell is working with 2 steers for this year’s Beef Project for the fair held at the Washington County Fair Park & Conference Center. He enjoys getting to work with the animals that he chooses for his projects and feels he made good selections this year as both Buck & Boss are nice and tame. He has learned that doing fair projects takes hard work, dedication and patience. “I am walking them around every day to get them ready for the fair,” Mitchell said. “I also wash them, blow dry them, train their hair, and have special feed rations. Doing a project teaches you a lot about yourself and you learn how to cope with different situations and scenarios.”

The Washington County Fair is held July 23rd - 28th at the Fair Park in West Bend, Wisconsin. Mitchell will be showing on Thursday morning and the sale is Thursday night. His fair week plans include hanging out in the barns with friends, talking and being around the cattle. He wants to be there answering people’s questions when they come through. To support Mitchell and his project; come to the show, ask questions and get more informed about the beef industry.

Good luck, Mitchell!
