FAIR PROJECT FRIDAY

Eden Chapin and Bryce Crowley are working with their sheep to get them ready for this year’s Winnebago County Fair-Oshkosh, WI. They spend time walking the sheep around to get them prepared for the show ring and used to wearing a halter. Indiana, is one of the 4 sheep that Eden will be bringing to the fair and Bryce has Rockstar as his project. Eden and Bryce’s families are friends and the two of them will show together at the fair. The fact that the sheep are related this year, mother and daughter, adds an interesting twist to this year’s project.

Eden has been involved in the Newcomers 4-H Club for 10 years now part of 4-H Winnebago County. Her sisters were in 4-H and were into projects with sheep and pigs, so Eden got into it too. Eden has been showing sheep for 7 years and will be in the Market Lamb division at the fair. She enjoys getting to know more about the sheep in general and learning more each year. “Taking care of an animal is a lot of responsibility,” she said. “They are not at my house, so I have to go there to learn and care for them.”

Bryce has been in the Plain V-U 4-H Club for 6 years. He was also introduced into the 4-H program because of an older sibling. His brother had pigs and a cow for his projects. Bryce liked sheep and, after convincing his dad, he started working with them as his project. He likes learning more about the animals each year and enjoys watching them develop from young on. He understands the responsibility to always manage the animals. He even finds enjoyment in cleaning pens because it’s keeping them happy and healthy. This will be Bryce’s 2nd year with sheep and is participating in the Market and Breeding Stock divisions at the fair.

The Winnebago County Fair – Oshkosh runs July 31 through August 4th. Show date is Thursday the 1st and Market is the 3rd. “Come see the show on show day,” Eden said. She is looking forward to fair week to see the animals and hang out with the other kids. She likes to see how the younger ones advance throughout the years.

“There are other show animals you can come see, too.” Bryce added. “Then come see us at the auction. We appreciate the support of both bidders and buyers.” His favorite part of going to the fair is showing and learning “and the slip‘n slide Dan puts together for us.”

Good luck with your projects, Eden and Bryce!

#FairProjectFriday...post #8... To show our support to the next generation of agriculture, Country Visions Cooperative will be giving a snapshot look of youth and their fair projects each Friday.
