Fair Project Friday

As far back as he can remember, Connor Stodola’s family has been involved in showing animals at the fair. This year will be no different as Connor gets ready to load up his 3 pigs for next week’s Kewaunee County Fair. He had always been a fan of all the animals on the farm and couldn’t wait to be old enough to join his local 4-H and get started showing. He has been a member of the Pilsen Skylighters Club of Kewaunee County 4-H, WI for 11 years now, joining the Club when he was in the 3rd grade.

Connor admits it is a large commitment with a lot of time involved to have a show project. The experience it offers and being able to watch his pigs grow throughout their life is unmatched though. He says that he is always learning something new because of the different challenges that arise or just discovering the difference between the feeds that are available. The biggest thing in getting his project animals ready is trying to make them have that good, fair quality appearance. Since the fair started getting closer, he has been getting them cleaned up, looking good and walking well. “I have 3 very stubborn pigs this year and they don’t like to be separated,” Connor said. “Walking has been challenging, but I have learned that the better you treat something, the better the outcome is.”

The 2019 Kewaunee County Fair is July 11th through the 14th. Connor will be showing on Thursday the 11th and the Market Animal Sale is on Saturday the 13th. He likes the competition of being at the fair. He enjoys showing in front of everyone and seeing how he did throughout the year, so stop by and show your support. Good luck, Connor!
