FAIR PROJECT FRIDAY

Aren Frank loves the attitude of Mave, her fair project for this year. She will be showing her at the Brown County Fair Wisconsin in the Dairy Division. Aren also raises Lionhead Rabbits to show in the Meat Rabbit Division. She recognized that doing fair projects has taught her responsibility, time commitment and patience. After almost 4 years of showing horses, Aren made the switch a year ago to dairy and rabbits for her project animals. She has enjoyed getting to learn a lot more about the animals; like what they react to and what they like or dislike. Aren is a 4-year member of the West De Pere High School, West De Pere FFA. Her friends got her to get into the organization and she was an officer her freshman year.

Plans for her dairy project started last year by picking out her animal. The next step was to halter-break and train her calf to walk with the halter on. Now she is getting Mave used to showing. This step includes more walking practice, grooming and getting her used to sounds, but Aren enjoys spending the time with her. “Mave is very loving and loves to be pet,” Aren said. “She is a big baby.”

Showing is what Aren is looking forward to as the fair season gets closer, but admits it can be stressful, so it is also a big relief once it is all done. “Come to the Brown County Fair and check out the animals,” she said, “then come to the show and see how we do.”

Good luck with your projects, Aren!
